June 2015 – KTL win Dersalloch Wind Farm 132kV OHL Project with Scottish Power

KTL was been awarded a project to design and construct an Overhead Line for Dersalloch Wind Farm in South Ayrshire as part of the SWS (South West Scotland) Windfarm connections for Scottish Power. These connections also include New Cumnock – Margree, New Cumnock - Dunhill – Blackhill, Blackhill - Glenglass Hill, Dun Hill.

The project is to Design & Construct a new 6.2km 132kV Single Circuit, 4 Wire Heavy Duty Wood Pole (HDWP) overhead line between the new proposed 132Kv Windfarm substation at Dersalloch and the new 275/132kV substation at New Cumnock. Conductors are 200mm2 AAAC (Poplar) Conductors and underslung OPGW (Horse equivalent) 70mm2 AACSR/ACS.

A number of distribution (LV) overhead line crossings will also need to be moved underground prior to the works taking place.

September 2014: European Business Awards – National Champion

For the second consecutive year the KTL Group has been selected as National Champion to represent Ireland.

The 2014/15 Awards engaged with over 24,000 businesses in 33 countries, 7,000 more business and two more countries than the previous year. In 2013/14 over 93,000 public votes were cast and this year promises to see far greater numbers.

February 2014: Storm Damage Repair work South West of Ireland

On Wednesday 12 February 2014 EUPower were called upon to help ESBN repair their network following the worst storm to hit Ireland in 25 years.

  • EUPower deployed 35 men to 3 locations on the morning of the 13 February 2014 and worked without break until Friday 21st February 2014. Resources were redeployed from other areas around Ireland.
  • Crews worked from 6.30 am to midnight to facilitate the emergency repair works.
  • 17 no. to ESB Tipperary Depot - covering the Limerick and Tipperary areas.
  • 14 no. to ESB Dunmanway Depot - covering west Cork.
  • 4 no. including P&M to West Clare.
  • The EUPower crews worked alongside ESBN as instructed to repair the networks as reports came in from line patrollers.
  • EUPower aided in Line Patrolling as well as repair and reconstruction work.
  • Since this ESBN requested EUPower to aid it follow up work with 4 no. 3 men crews working out of ESB Tipperary Depot until repair works are completed.

 

ESB Overhead Line Framework

EUPower, a KTL & GTS joint venture company, was awarded the contract to act as PSCS for the ESB Overhead Line Framework for client ESB Networks early in 2013. The framework consists of several projects to be complete over a 3 year period; Kellis to Kilkenny 110kV Line Refurbishment, Clonkeen 110kV Substation Reconfiguration, Cullenagh to Dungravan 110kV Line Refurbishment, Binbane to Letterkenny 110kV new line and Sligo LVR.

 

With Kellis - Kilkenny and Clonkeen finished, EUPower recently completed works on the Cullenagh - Dungravan 110kV Overhead Power Lines Refurbishment. 

This project involved:

  • Replacement of 5x pylons,
  • Replacement of 50x pole sets (varying from 16m to 23m),
  • 2x pole sets deplumed,
  • 46 No. cross arms replacements, 
  • 9 No. cross arms transferred,
  • Restringing of 15km including 1 phase OPPC,
  • 2 No. centenary guarding,
  • 5 No. anti-climb guards,
  • Restringing ACSR (wolf) 200mm2 with ACSR (bison) 430mm2 &OPPC equivalent.

Works have begun on binbane to Letterkenny 110kV New Line.
