Christian D’Agostino

CAD Technician, KTL
“I have just started with KTL, and it is the best job I’ve ever had! I love what I do – digital design. There is good variety to the work I do with KTL, it is great experience so far.”

Tell us about yourself?

I am from Milan, Italy and I moved to the UK three and a half years ago. I am a trained Electrician and when I arrived in the UK first, I did voluntary Electrical work in the south of England and then near Perth in Scotland helping families in need. When I arrived in the UK I couldn’t speak English, which was very hard. I learned the language while working as a kitchen porter and waiter in a Scottish restaurant. It took over 12 months to pick up English confidently. My Italian qualifications weren’t as well recognised in the UK as they were in Italy, so I decided to upskill and study to be a CAD Technician. I did my first year at the Glasgow Kelvin College and then my second year at the New College Lanarkshire in Motherwell before joining KTL in July 2021.

What does your role involve?

I work with telecommunications clients and antenna design engineers to make accurate drawings of a network deployment, which includes the antennas, technology and cabinets, ensuring the drawings are precise and to scale.

What do you enjoy most about working at KTL?

I have just started with KTL, and it is the best job I’ve ever had! I love what I do – digital design. There is good variety to the work I do with KTL, it is great experience so far. The work from home is cool. I save a lot of time by not travelling. My home office set up is great and my chair is so comfortable!

How would you describe the KTL culture?

People are friendly, helpful, and professional. The team is supportive and happy to help if I need it or have questions. There are regular meetings to check-in, which works well to stay connected.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

I want to continue to study. I have applied to the Strathclyde University to keep improving my drawing skills.

In years to come, I want to work for myself and do 3D design.
