On the 18th of November 1918, after World War One, an independent Latvian state was born following the end of German and Russian occupation.
The memorable occasion is known as the Proclamation Day of the Republic of Latvia. The birthday for the state of Latvia is celebrated annually with various public events in the country.
“As the event falls into one of the darkest months of the year, November, it is a tradition to light up towns and cities with light decors and candles, and to organise torchlight processions and fireworks to mark the event,” said Andra.
She plans to celebrate this national holiday with cakes and a glass of prosecco! “Interestingly, cakes and desserts for the day are usually decorated in the colours of the Latvian flag – red, white, red!”
