Killian Flynn, a KTL Engineering intern showing huge potential
Killian Flynn is currently in his third year of an Electrical and Electronics Degree course at TU Dublin and is undertaking a six-month Engineering Internship at KTL.
“While on my summer holidays in Ireland, I did work experience at KTL, and this led me to apply for the internship. I was delighted when I was offered a position after I applied”, said Killian Flynn.
He grew up in London where he completed his A levels in Electronics, TU Dublin was chosen above other third levels in the UK or Ireland as it is a technological university specialising in Engineering – with strong links to industry. Killian is enjoying life in Ireland having spent many holidays over the years in the Emerald Isle.
He is currently working with the Engineering Transmission team. With extensive support and help from the team, his role involves designing microwave links to the highest industry standards. Killian contributes to the process of site selection and design, documents support while also working with implementation personnel to ensure an effective network rollout.
Killian’s deep interest in Engineering and Electronics was the catalyst for him to set up the TU Dublin University’s Electronics Society in his second year in college where he acts as the chairperson teaching the basics of electronics and programming to fellow students. Along with his dedicated committee, they build racing robots alongside helping students who may be struggling with their projects.
Killian has organised an impressive drone event taking place on the 7th of May, he said “It has taken a year to get this event off the ground. It required sourcing the rules and regulations from the UAS department in the IAA and sourcing approval from the many different teams involved from TU Dublin before we got the go-ahead. Team Crash Animals have been a huge support for this event and will help run it. We’ve also received incredible sponsorship from Manna Aero to get this drone event off the ground – they are the largest drone delivery company in Ireland. The event competition involves wearing FPV goggles, which gives a first-person view of the drone which can fly at high speed through a track - whoever completes it in the fastest time wins!”
Killian will be accredited as a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland upon completing his degree and is very much looking forward to a fulfilling and interesting future in engineering.
“KTL has been very welcoming. I am looking forward to the remainder of my time at KTL developing my professional and personal skills in a supportive environment,” said Flynn.
