KTL boosts network capacity for EE’s 5G customers at Glastonbury Festival
KTL partnered with EE to install 80 GHz, EBAND, high-capacity microwave links at Glastonbury Festival this year to boost network capacity.
The growing demand for connectivity at Glastonbury festival is fuelled by festival goers making and receiving calls, messaging, uploading images, live video streaming, and making contactless payments.
EE part of the BT Group was named the UK’s best network for the ninth year running in 2022. EE’s superfast mobile network at festivals has been built to cope with considerable demand.
Glastonbury Festival is the largest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world and was held recently from the 21st June – 25th June 2023. The festival took place in a beautiful location – 900 acres in the Vale of Avalon and the site is huge – it’s a perimeter of eight and a half miles.
Glastonbury were expecting 210,000 festivalgoers this year. Data consumption across the festival has nearly doubled from 2019 to 2022 to around 182 terabytes.
EE’s statement to KTL on the installations completed at Glastonbury said, ‘’Big thanks to you guys [KTL] for a very smooth week in Glastonbury. From what we can see it has all gone very well and I’m sure the teams worked long hours to get this in, so pass on our thanks and appreciation.’’
Shane Kiernan, KTL Delivery Manager commented, “We are delighted to have been part of this special events project with EE at Glastonbury. Our team successfully installed this niche MW Install at Glastonbury festival and accomplished nothing short of great quality and Right First Time work. We helped address the colossal demand for data from festivalgoers, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity. The success of this installation reaffirms KTL’s commitment to delivering for our clients ensuring EE’s customers have a positive festival experience.”
